Bespoke Corten Signage at Centurion Meadows

We partnered with specialist dry stone wall builder, Natural by Design, to create signage for a new Barrett Homes development – Centurion Meadows – in Burley in Wharfedale.

Sitting at the entrance to the development, the contours of the Corten name sign were designed to match the surrounding dales and to be in keeping with the existing landscape. A further round Corten sign was created, featuring a Roman soldier to reflect the site which was, at one point, thought to house Roman artefacts.

We shot-blasted the signs to accelerate the Corten weathering process which will, in time, develop from the current grey colour to the much-loved rusted colour associated with Corten. Take a look at Natural by Design’s Instagram here to see the process and finished result.

Why Corten Steel?

Corten steel offers an industrial, rustic-style effect that pops against any backdrop.

Cor-Ten is a brand name for steel alloys which were developed to be weather-proof, even without paint. It’s also referred to as ‘weathering steel’, ‘rusty steel’ and ‘Corten’.

The material organically adapts to its environment, producing a vibrant orange patina. This not only protects the steel but creates a stunning finish. Weathered steel is suitably stable. Rather than rusting entirely, the surface transforms over time in a consistent way that prevents further corrosion. The way it weathers will be as unique and attractive as your design.
